Newborn Session Prep Guide
(Too Long, Didn’t Read)
- Good Natural Light is essential for Newborn Family Photos
- Master Beds are best for sibling photos
- Large couches with chaise works well too
- Backlit settings are not ideal for the full set of photos, just a couple
- Clothing: Solids are best. Prints distract from baby
- Nursery photos can make for a sweet setting
- Sibling photos will go first! This is Critical!
- Family photos will follow sibling photos
- Location: Quiet, closed off room is best. I will bring lights for this portion. Sudden noises (washing dishes, ice machines, loud animals) can wake baby.
- Ideally, 5 x 5 ft. spot works best, but I can get creative with out things are laid out if needed.
- Heat the room for the newborn only photos to 75-80 degrees
- Feed baby fully, do not short change the feeding because you are in a hurry
- Keep baby awake for the hour before the session if you can (but don’t’ let them get overtired)
- RELAX! Baby will pick up on your tension and won’t relax or sleep. I have worked with 200+ babies, your little one is in very good hands.
- Please have baby in just a diaper and blanket so I don’t have to get them out of warm PJs and wake them by undressing them.
